Welcome!

Join Us in Guyana for a Landmark Celebration of Health Innovation!

Dr. Lisa Indar

Executive Director, CARPHA

“

The 70th Annual Health Research Conference is not only a celebration of our past, but a bold step into the future of Caribbean health research. Innovations in public health are the engines of modern well-being, transforming entire societies by pushing the boundaries of what is possible in disease prevention, diagnosis, and community care. They turn once-deadly outbreaks into manageable obstacles, extend life expectancy, and bring high-quality health services to the world’s most remote corners. From AI-powered tools that predict epidemics before they start, to smart vaccines that save millions of lives, public health innovations do not just improve life—they redefine it, creating healthier, more resilient, and more equitable futures for all.

We welcome health practitioners, researchers, students and experts to exchange, share and network for the development of our Caribbean region’s health research capacity.

Hon. Dr. Frank Anthony MD, MPH, MP

Minister of Health, the Co-operative Republic of Guyana
Chairman, CARPHA Executive Board
President, Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Executive Committee
First Vice President, World Health Assembly
Caribbean Representative, UNAIDS Program Coordinating Board

As host country, Guyana’s role is especially impactful given its growing investments in health systems, infrastructure, and scientific development; it offers significant benefits including expanding research capacity and a cultural and ecological environment ideal for discussions on health equity, climate resilience and emerging diseases. We are proud to host this milestone 70th Anniversary Annual Health Research Conference.

I welcome this opportunity to partner with CARPHA to provide a forum to showcase research being conducted in the Caribbean, and to provide a platform for research collaborations. We believe in the future of health and the new ideas that are developing, and we are confident that this conference will feature many of the emerging technologies. We look forward to sharing our experiences and lessons learned in health. For example, we’ve made significant progress in the elimination of some infectious diseases; Guyana is on target to eliminate five (5) neglected infections by the year 2030. Sharing this type of experience will help the Region to learn about the approaches being undertaken by Guyana, and apply similar techniques should they have similar challenges. Guyana is pioneering a lot of work in digital health: with an extensive telemedicine network, the use of drone technology for the delivery of medicine, the use of AI for interpretation of x-rays and CT scans, and at this conference we will be able to showcase some of these innovations to our visiting counterparts. We look forward to an exciting and productive conference, and to welcoming you to Guyana.

About the Conference

The CARPHA Annual Health Research Conference is the largest health research conference in the English-speaking Caribbean and the longest-running health research Conference in Latin America and the Caribbean region. The goal of the Conference is to facilitate and promote communication and sharing of scientific outputs among health scientists, policymakers, and related professionals in the wider Caribbean Region.

The conference seeks to:

Disseminate health research findings conducted by and for the Caribbean to the relevant stakeholders: policymakers, practitioners, health, and allied health professionals, etc.

Facilitate the uptake of current and cutting-edge research evidence to enable the development of evidence-based policies, practices, and programmes.

Foster a culture of research and build capacity among local health and allied professionals.

Facilitate the development of partnerships and collaborations among researchers, policy makers, etc.

Research Advisory Committee

The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) Research Advisory Committee (RAC) plays a pivotal role in advancing public health research across the Caribbean. Established in 2013, following the development of CARPHA’s Research Policy Framework, the RAC supports the development and implementation of research strategies aligned with regional health priorities.

The Committee’s key functions include advising on research policy, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and supporting the dissemination of research findings, particularly through the Annual CARPHA Research Conference. The RAC also assesses research grant applications, mentors potential researchers, and works closely with partners to address public health challenges.

Comprised of senior health researchers, the RAC promotes evidence-based decision-making and helps bridge the gap between research and public health policy across CARPHA’s member states. By focusing on priority health areas and supporting the research community, the RAC ensures that CARPHA remains at the forefront of regional public health research and policy development.
